How to get to NIFS and back to your country

1. From Sendai ("" in Japanese)

By Airplane to Nagoya

From Nagoya Airport: go to 4.
By Train (JR Super Express Shinkansen)
- from Sendai to Tokyo by JR Tohoku Shinkansen
  (Super Express "Yamabiko" takes 2 - 2.5 hours. Express charge is 5,010yen. )
- from Tokyo to Nagoya by JR Tokaido Shinkansen (Super Express "Hikari" takes 2 hours. Express charge is 4,690yen. Super Express "Nozomi" takes 1.5 hours, charge is 5,450yen.)
- From Nagoya Station: go to 5.
total cost (one way): 10,190yen (ticket)+ 9,700yen (express charge, or 10,460yen by "Nozomi")= 19,890yen (20,650yen) for a reserved seat.
In total it takes about 5 hours to get to Tajimi.

2. From Narita Airport by train

from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station
(1) by JR line Narita Express "NEX" (every 30 minutes). 1 hour. Express charge is 1,860yen.
(2) by JR line rapid train (one per hour). 85 min.
(3) by Keisei line, express (every 20 min., 1000yen) to Nippori station (70 min.), and change to JR Yamanote line to Tokyo station (frequent, 12 min.)
from Tokyo to Nagoya by JR Tokaido Shinkansen (frequent)
(Super Express "Hikari" takes 2 hours, charge is 4,490yen. Super Express "Nozomi" takes 1.5 hours, charge is 5,250yen.)
From Nagoya Station: go to 5.

total cost (one way; by JR line): 7,670yen (ticket)+ 6,550yen (express charge, or 7,310yen by "Nozomi") = 14,220yen (14,980yen) for a reserved seat.
In total it takes about 4.5 - 5 hours to get to Tajimi.

3. From Kansai Airport

from Kansai Airport to Shin Osaka Station by JR line Express "Haruka" (every 30 minutes). Requires 50 minutes.
from Shin Osaka to Nagoya Station by JR Tokaido Shinkansen (frequent).
(Super Express "Hikari" or "Kodama" takes 60-70 minutes from Shin Osaka)
From Nagoya Station: go to 5.

Total cost (one way by JR line): 5,150yen + 4,050yen(express charge)=9,200yen
In total it takes about 3 hours to get to Tajimi.

4. From Nagoya Airport

In total it takes about 1 hour to get to Tajimi if traffic is not crowded.

from Nagoya Airport to JR Kachigawa station by bus (every 30 minutes; 320yen; 20 minutes). Or by taxi (2000yen).

Domestic Terminal:
The bus stop is in middle. You need to confirm the destination (Kachigawa) of bus since different lines depart from the same stop.
International Terminal:
The Kachigawa bus stop is at the end.
The Kachigawa station is the final stop (destination). Pay the fare when you get off the bus.

from Kachigawa station to Tajimi Station by JR Chuo line (track No. 1) bound for Tajimi/Tokishi/Mizunami/Nakatsugawa/Nagiso/Sakashita (every 15 minutes approximately; 400yen; 25 minutes by rapid or local train). Tajimi in Japanese is "

5. From Nagoya Station

from Nagoya station to Tajimi Station by JR Chuo line bound for Tajimi/Tokishi/Mizunami/Nakatsugawa/Nagiso/Sakashita (track No. 7, 8, or 10) (every 15 minutes approximately; 650yen; 40-50 minutes by rapid or local train).

From Tajimi station: go to 6.

6a. From Tajimi Station to NIFS

by Bus for "Kenkyu Gakuen Toshi Center" (= the name of bus stop; in Japanese) at No.3 bus stop. (340yen, 15min.)

Weekdays only: bus to Tajimi station from the bus stop in front of NIFS.

bus from "Kotaniguchi" ("" in Japanese) bus stop (down the hill from NIFS for 15 minutes) to Tajimi station. 3 buses per hour until 20:38 (weekend). 290yen. 13min.

8. At NIFS

The seminor will be held at a meeting room on 4F floor in the left-hand-side buiding.
Poster session will be held on the same floor.
Cafeteria is located on 1st floor.
Cafeteria serves breakfast from 8:30am.
Cafeteria serves supper from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

9. From Tajimi Station to Kachigawa or Nagoya Station

JR Chuo line bound for Nagoya (track No.1, 2 or 4.) by rapid or local train. Every 10-15 min.

10. The way back to your country.

(1) From Tajimi to Narita

It takes about 5 hours.
If your flight departs at 12:00 and you need to get to Narita Airport by 10:00am, and must leave Tajimi at 5:30am.

(A) By airplane

From Tajimi Station by Chuo Line to Kachigawa Station and take a bus.
Train: 5:33 (Tajimi station) --> 5:53 (Kachigawa Station)

Take a bus from Kachigawa Station to Nagoya Airport at 6:05. It arrives at the Airport at 6:24.

From Tajimi Station by Chuo Line to Kasugai Station and take a taxi.
(Not Kachigawa station, since you cannot catch a taxi at Kachigawa station early in the morning.)
Train: 5:33 (Tajimi station) --> 5:50 (Kasugai Station)

Take a taxi from Kasugai Station to Nagoya Airport. (40-50 min.; approximately 3000yen)

(B) By train

From Tajimi Station by Chuo Line to Nagoya Station.

From Nagoya Station by Shinkansen Express HIKARI to Tokyo Station. (It takes 2 hours. 3-4 trains per hour.)

From Tokyo Station to Narita Airport

(4) Airport bus from Kachigawa Satation to Nagoya Airport

(approximately 20 min., fare=320yen.)

When you get on a bus from back, you take a numbered ticket which determines the bus fare. You need to keep the ticket and pay the fare with the ticket when you get off the bus. The bus fare is shown on a board in front of the bus by the number for your bus stop.

On the way to the airport, there are several stops. When arriving at the airport, the international terminal is the first stop. You push a button to inform the bus driver that you want to get off. The domestic terminal is the last stop. There is no English announcement, so watch carefully.
